About

How do you capture the iconic pop of a Mönchshof beer bottle opening? That was the idea behind this project. The goal was to create a simple but realistic animation that could be used flexibly across social media posts. The biggest challenge along the way was getting the liquid and the foam to look just right.

Modelling and Rigging

I modeled the Mönchshof bottle according to reference images I photographed. To prepare for the animation process, I gave the lable at the top denser geometry to make the cloth simulation more realistic. I also prepared and animated the rig for the plop movement where the lable gets cut through and the lid springs open. To emphasize the plop I gave the bottle a small shaking movement.

Detail Animation

To make the scene more realistic, I added condensed droplets on the surface of the bottle. For that I made a geometry nodes setup in Blender. This setup spawns drops at the top of the bottle and lets them slide slowly along the surface. After reaching the bottom they disappear.
